Limber Pine (Pinus flexilis) [ Trees > Conifers > Pines . . . ] Forest Type: Sonoran to Hudsonian
by Michael Kuo Habitat: 4,000 to 11,500 feet; often in rocky foothills or on rocky summits. Stature: 25-80 feet high; to 2.5 feet in diameter; branches often drooping; with an open crown. Needles: In bundles of 5; 1.5-3 inches long; dark green; with fine white lines on all sides. Bark: Thin; fairly smooth; whitish. Cones: 3-10 inches; scales thickened. The smaller branches of limber pine are quite limber, and can be bent easily without breaking. Frequent Mushroom Associates: Suillus americanus pseudosibiricus and many others. |
