Hohenbuehelia petaloides
This prime example of Hohenbuehelia petaloides was growing alone in an
unkept lawn that had an accumalation of leaves and woody debris mixed
with the thatch layer. Folds around itself and creates a funnel-like slot,
similar to a shoehorn. Crowded gills run completely down the stem.
Spore print white.
This close-up image shows the
rarely noted finely serrated gills
Hohenbuehelia petaloides exhibits.
A small specimen showing the peculiar growth habit of
this cool mushroom.
Hohenbuehelia petaloides often
grows in clusters and seems to like urban areas.
Thick walled cystidia are abundant on the gills; lanceolate to fusoid,
measuring 35–100 x 7.5–20 microns.
A single pleurocystidium with
apical encrustations.
