MDCP Record for 04220303 Collection Date: April 22, 2003 County or City: Coles Collector's Notes: Amid mayapples, with a dead log (6+ years) nearby, an elm within 10 feet, and a shag-bark hickory within 10 feet. Soil temperature 50.1 degrees; pH 7. In a spot that has produced black morels fairly regularly for at least 6 years. No slope. Over the years I have often noted that the black morels in this spot are rounder, and more "elata-like" than the typical, pointy M. angusticeps that grows elsewhere in Coles County.
