MDCP Record for 04120301 Collection Date: April 12, 2003 County or City: Indiana Collector's Notes: These were little black morels. In this spot, they never get large. Trees: They were growing in sand next to a very large tulip poplar tree. The one side of the tree had sand where they were growing up from. There were about 20 morels found under the tree ranging from 2 feet away from the trunk to 20 feet away. The other side of the tree had soil but no morels. The only type of trees present in the area were tulip poplar. There were not any leaves on the tulip trees yet. Shrubs: None. Plants: Mayapples were not up yet. Air Temperature: 64 degrees. Soil Temperature: 60 degrees. Soil PH: 7.
