MDCP Record for 02200306 Collection Date: February 20, 2003 County or City: Sonoma Collector's Notes: They grow under the drip line of Incense Cedar in an old apple orchard. I planted the cedars 15 years ago when they were only three inches tall. Roots of an old, living apple tree are also in the same area. The trunk of the tree is within fifteen feet of the morels. All three morel sites in my backyard have cedars and apples within 15 feet and ALL of them fruit only under the cedars. Absolutely no fires since I have lived here, but I have spread fire place ashes in the area, under the apple trees. So, it is not an easy solution as to the identity of the morels. This year, the same exact spot fruited three times, Feb, Mar and April.
