False Morel Project Record for 04240302 Collection Date: April 24, 2003 County or City: Jasper Collector's Notes: Six specimens growing under a dead elm in young woods composed of ash, elm, cherry, and other hardwoods; soil temperature 55.5 degrees; pH 7.1. Cap 4-6 cm; irregular and convoluted; not lobed; thin and tightly appressed. Hymenium wavy and wrinkled in sharp patterns, smooth elsewhere; dirty reddish brown. Excipular surface hardly exposed; pale tan to whitish where visible; fused with stem except at extreme margin. Stem irregular; columned; proportionally thick; dirty off-white; to 5 cm wide. Flesh thickly chambered; pocketed; watery white. Odor none. Spores 23-27 x 9-11 µ without apiculi; each apiculus to 4 µ long; apiculi not present on spores in asci and on some smaller spores; all uniguttulate or triguttulate.
