False Morel Project Record for 04010301 Collection Date: April 01, 2003 County or City: Shelby Collector's Notes: 5 specimens growing gregariously around a fallen, rotted hardwood log in oak-hickory woods mixed with ash. Caps 3-8 cm; wavy; loosely lobed with 2-3 irregular lobes; hymenium tan to pale orange-cinnamon, wrinkled; excipular surface whitish to cream, becoming ingrown with itself and stem where contact occurs; stem 2-3 cm wide by 2-6 cm long, white to cream, fairly smooth, irregularly grooved, often with a large bulbous portion underground; flesh thick, chambered, watery white, thicker in stem base; odor not distinctive; spores elliptical, with one large central oil droplet, smooth, 19-21 x 8.5-11 µ.
