Collector's Notes: ILLS collection 54774, Gyromitra infula. From Bear River, 48-27-19 N, 93-43-11 W. Collection includes notation: "On wood debris." Voucher consists of two ascocarps, fused at the base, and a portion of the woody substrate. No bark on the wood; appears to have been decorticated. Rot in the wood appears to have been white and stringy. Ascocarps taken together are about 4 cm high, with stipes about 2 cm long and under 1 cm wide, and caps about 2.5-3 cm across. Hymenium now reddish brown with blackened areas; stipe and excipular surface orangish creamy. Stipe surface appears to have been orangish myceloid-tomentose. Asci up to about 240 X 12 µ; 8-spored. Paraphyses up to about 250 X 5 µ; often forked below and occasionally appearing hydra- or squid-like; apices flattened, rounded, subcapitate or irregular; contents reddish orange in KOH. Spores outside of asci broadly elliptical; (15-) 16.5 - 17.5 (-19) X (6-) 6.5 - 7.5 (-8.5) [40 measurements]; average L 16.625; average W 7.0875; Q = 2.35; hyaline and smooth in water and in KOH; walls about 1 µ thick; primarily biguttulate, with or without smaller droplets; without apiculi or apical swellings. Hymenium appears somewhat immature; many spores still loaded in asci.
