Katherine (Katie) is a PhD student in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Arkansas , where she is studying the ecology and population structure of myxomycetes. She came to Arkansas from Oxford , Mississippi , where she earned a BS in Biology from the University of Mississippi . Currently, Katie is involved with an ecological and floristic study of myxomycetes in National Park units throughout the United States .  She also has extensive experience with informal science education of school children through the University of Mississippi Field Station and the Virgin Islands Environmental Resource Station. More recently, she is a part of an effort to develop lessons using myxomycetes as tools for science education in local schools.
