Greifswald Workshop

August 7-13, 2004

In the summer of 2004, Martin Schnittler hosted the first workshop for the identification and isolation of protostelids and dictyostelids at the Botanical Institute of the University of Greifswald in Greifswald , Germany . This workshop was intended to introduce these eumycetozoan groups to researchers in Europe who have previously had little experience with them. The workshop was attended by 10 scientists from 6 different countries. The participants spent most of the week in the laboratory intensively searching primary isolation plates to find protostelids and dictyostelids, and then to learn techniques for identifying the various species. Later in the week we visited the botanical and a nearby forest to practice techniques for collecting protostelids and dictyostelids.
