Frederick W. Spiegel

Fred received his BA in Anthropology (with honors) and Botany from Drew University in New Jersey and his PhD in Botany with Lindsay Olive at the University of North Carolina . His doctoral research was on protostelid development and ultrastructure. He did postdoctoral work on pattern development in cellular slime molds with Ted Cox at Princeton University . His first faculty position was as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Miami University ( Ohio ) before moving to the University of Arkansas where he is now Professor of Biological Sciences. His primary interests are in the biology of Eumycetozoa, especially protostelids, Mycology, and the phylogeny of protists.
